New Study Shows How You Can Burn Double the Fat During Exercise

If you hit the gym first thing in the morning, before you have breakfast, you can burn double the fat, according to a new study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. The researchers concluded that your body can benefit from exercising before breakfast.

The study lasted for six weeks and included 30 overweight and obese men divided into three groups. One group exercised before breakfast, the other first ate and then exercised, while the third, control group made no lifestyle changes.

After six weeks, the results showed that participants who ate breakfast after physical activity “burned double the amount of fat,” according to Dr. Javier Gonzalz of UK’s Department of Health.

“The group who exercised before breakfast increased their ability to respond to insulin, which is all the more remarkable given that both exercise groups lost a similar amount of weight and both gained a similar amount of fitness. The only difference was the timing of the food intake,” Dr. Gonzalez said.
