You may know oregano as a popular spice for pizza, but it has many other uses. It’s widely used in Greek and Italian cuisine and is closely related to thyme, basil, lavender, and sage. You can use fresh or dried oregano in many different recipes. It has a nice taste and even better smell, and best of all it comes with health benefits.

Health Benefits

Oregano is often used for relieving symptoms of respiratory conditions like cough, asthma, bronchitis, and allergies. It’s also used for treating bloating, headaches, menstrual cramps, high cholesterol, acne, dandruff, muscle pain, and many other things.

How to Use It

You can find oregano in every grocery store, mostly in the spice aisle as a dried spice. Store it in your cupboard away from heat and humidity and use it for cooking. Try adding it to spaghetti sauce or pizza and you’ll quickly find it essential for such dishes.

Side Effects

Most people can safely use oregano in usual amounts, but be careful if you’re allergic to mint as you may develop an allergic reaction to oregano as well. Oregano oil is a popular remedy but should be taken very carefully as it’s easy to use too much of it.
