Sophie van Oostenbrugge, or as she’s better known, ‘GainsByBrains’, is a fitness influencer that has a great approach to her content. She has been building a following on Instagram and Youtube for over 5 years now. Sophie has quickly reached over 2 million followers on Instagram and over 700k subscribers on Youtube, and it’s not without reason!

We totally understand why people are obsessing over Sophie! Her content provides guides to all types of gym (and home) workouts to achieve any goals you may have. She has follow-along workouts on her Youtube channel, so you can feel like you’re in a private lesson with her. When Brie Larson first debuted as Captain Marvel in the 2019 Marvel film Captain Marvel, a big part of the buzz around her was all of the intense workouts she was posting that showed how hard she was training for the role. Well, Larson is about to reprise her role in the upcoming movie The Marvels slated to be released next year.

So, as you can imagine, Larson is back on Instagram showing off her current training, and it’s just as inspiring as it was two years ago. From weighted planks with a 45-pound plate on her back to kettlebell goblet squats with added resistance, to push-ups with added resistance using a resistance band, Larson is clearly capable of things that most of us aren’t.

But while we may not be able to ever do a plank with a weight the size of a small child on our backs, we can definitely take inspiration from Larson’s workouts. From adding extra resistance to exercises to continuing to push when you think you can’t handle anymore, Larson’s Instagram will definitely be a great source of inspiration in the months to come.

I cannot tell you the number of humans that I have spoken to who feel one way about the act of restriction and another way about binging. Other ways this might show up… In glorifying “perfect“ eating, in suggesting that our bodies are not trustworthy, that our bodies must be managed, and that there is one way to do this eating, living, practicing selfcare, but not leaning towards self indulgent thing. What an ENORMOUS lie. I have deep distain for the reverence of one eating disorder behavior and the shame associated with another. Binge eating disorder is a restrictive eating disorder. Binge eating and binge eating disorder can affect humans who live in small bodies and in large bodies. Binge eating is not unique to one age group, one ethnicity, one gender, one socioeconomic class, or one racial group. Binge eating disorder is the most common eating disorder. And its inclusion in the DSM has made the incidence of breast cancer lower than the incidence of eating disorders. This is not about self control. This is not about self control. This is not about self control. This is not about self control. Restricting in an effort to minimize the effect of a binge only leads to further binging. I think it’s very important to recognize the mechanisms that support our utilization of food as a means of navigating the planet. For many of my clients, food has been THE way to cope in times where other skills were unavailable. And perhaps, in this moment, you are finding this method of interacting with food to be calming, soothing, supportive. Brilliant. This is not shameful, this is resourceful. Let’s stop idealizing one eating disorder behavior in lieu of another. Suffering is suffering.

Joan MacDonald was nearly 70 when she learned that her health was rapidly getting worse. The doctor didn’t have good news for her; she suffered from high blood pressure, acid reflux, and high cholesterol. MacDonald had a choice, she could either increase the dosage of her meds or drastically change her lifestyle.

MacDonald remembered that her mother went through the same things and took more and more meds, and decided she wanted to try another approach. Her daughter helped her get started and, over a couple of years, she made an incredible change.

This brave lady lost over 60 pounds and her doctors have confirmed that her health has never been better. She never got discouraged for being slower than other people in the gym, and she slowly made her body stronger than it ever was.

Her eating habits also changed. She claims that she now eats more than before, but she chooses foods that are rich in nutrients and lower in calories. MacDonald is living proof that self-improvement is addictive. After some time, her daughter introduced her to apps like Headspace and Elevate for meditation and mental wellbeing, as well as Duolingo where she started learning Spanish. Busy Philipps is one of those celebrities who is always keeping it 100% real – even when it comes to her fitness routine. The Cougar Town star enjoys using Instagram stories to share her workouts and she recently discussed her workouts with People Magazine.

One thing that makes Philipps’ workout clips different from the ones we usually see online is their sheer, unfiltered honesty. She’s fully embracing all the good and the bad parts of demanding sweat sessions in order to inspire people to truly commit to their fitness goals.

“I feel like modeling behavior for younger generations is so important, and that’s part of the reason why I post my workouts on the [Instagram] stories,” explained Philipps.

Philipps believes that this “modeling behavior” starts at home, since she didn’t feel athletic for the longest time because her family didn’t encourage physical activity and exercise. She’s trying to set a better example for her daughters by making exercise a part of her daily routine.

“My girls have a different experience because their dad [husband Marc Silverstein] goes to spin class always every day, they know that. I do my workout every morning, they know that,” said Philipps while chatting with People Magazine.

In a world obsessed with perfect fitness models, Chinae Alexander did something controversial. She recently published a photo of herself on her Instagram page that shows her from a non-flattering angle.

Along with the photo, she wrote, “I didn’t post this photo before because of the way my stomach looked. And now I am posting this photo….because I didn’t post this photo because of the way my stomach looked. (Get all that?) 99% of the time I am damn proud of my body. But I want you to know that even people who are confident have to deal with flashes of negativity about ourselves. Changing your body image isn’t like turning a light switch off. It’s a daily act of forgiving your own imperfection and. CHOOSING to see your worthiness. So yeah. We all suck at this. But with grace, each other, and some sanity nachos…we suck less over time.”

Alexander is a big mental health and well-being promoter who believes in being honest about your life rather than showing everything as perfect even when it’s not. She’s an amazing role model for young girls everywhere.

Sophie van Oostenbrugge, or as she’s better known, ‘GainsByBrains’, is a fitness influencer that has a great approach to her content. She has been building a following on Instagram and Youtube for over 5 years now. Sophie has quickly reached over 2 million followers on Instagram and over 700k subscribers on Youtube, and it’s not without reason!

We totally understand why people are obsessing over Sophie! Her content provides guides to all types of gym (and home) workouts to achieve any goals you may have. She has follow-along workouts on her Youtube channel, so you can feel like you’re in a private lesson with her. When Brie Larson first debuted as Captain Marvel in the 2019 Marvel film Captain Marvel, a big part of the buzz around her was all of the intense workouts she was posting that showed how hard she was training for the role. Well, Larson is about to reprise her role in the upcoming movie The Marvels slated to be released next year.

So, as you can imagine, Larson is back on Instagram showing off her current training, and it’s just as inspiring as it was two years ago. From weighted planks with a 45-pound plate on her back to kettlebell goblet squats with added resistance, to push-ups with added resistance using a resistance band, Larson is clearly capable of things that most of us aren’t.

But while we may not be able to ever do a plank with a weight the size of a small child on our backs, we can definitely take inspiration from Larson’s workouts. From adding extra resistance to exercises to continuing to push when you think you can’t handle anymore, Larson’s Instagram will definitely be a great source of inspiration in the months to come.

I cannot tell you the number of humans that I have spoken to who feel one way about the act of restriction and another way about binging. Other ways this might show up… In glorifying “perfect“ eating, in suggesting that our bodies are not trustworthy, that our bodies must be managed, and that there is one way to do this eating, living, practicing selfcare, but not leaning towards self indulgent thing. What an ENORMOUS lie. I have deep distain for the reverence of one eating disorder behavior and the shame associated with another. Binge eating disorder is a restrictive eating disorder. Binge eating and binge eating disorder can affect humans who live in small bodies and in large bodies. Binge eating is not unique to one age group, one ethnicity, one gender, one socioeconomic class, or one racial group. Binge eating disorder is the most common eating disorder. And its inclusion in the DSM has made the incidence of breast cancer lower than the incidence of eating disorders. This is not about self control. This is not about self control. This is not about self control. This is not about self control. Restricting in an effort to minimize the effect of a binge only leads to further binging. I think it’s very important to recognize the mechanisms that support our utilization of food as a means of navigating the planet. For many of my clients, food has been THE way to cope in times where other skills were unavailable. And perhaps, in this moment, you are finding this method of interacting with food to be calming, soothing, supportive. Brilliant. This is not shameful, this is resourceful. Let’s stop idealizing one eating disorder behavior in lieu of another. Suffering is suffering.

Joan MacDonald was nearly 70 when she learned that her health was rapidly getting worse. The doctor didn’t have good news for her; she suffered from high blood pressure, acid reflux, and high cholesterol. MacDonald had a choice, she could either increase the dosage of her meds or drastically change her lifestyle.

MacDonald remembered that her mother went through the same things and took more and more meds, and decided she wanted to try another approach. Her daughter helped her get started and, over a couple of years, she made an incredible change.

This brave lady lost over 60 pounds and her doctors have confirmed that her health has never been better. She never got discouraged for being slower than other people in the gym, and she slowly made her body stronger than it ever was.

Her eating habits also changed. She claims that she now eats more than before, but she chooses foods that are rich in nutrients and lower in calories. MacDonald is living proof that self-improvement is addictive. After some time, her daughter introduced her to apps like Headspace and Elevate for meditation and mental wellbeing, as well as Duolingo where she started learning Spanish. Busy Philipps is one of those celebrities who is always keeping it 100% real – even when it comes to her fitness routine. The Cougar Town star enjoys using Instagram stories to share her workouts and she recently discussed her workouts with People Magazine.

One thing that makes Philipps’ workout clips different from the ones we usually see online is their sheer, unfiltered honesty. She’s fully embracing all the good and the bad parts of demanding sweat sessions in order to inspire people to truly commit to their fitness goals.

“I feel like modeling behavior for younger generations is so important, and that’s part of the reason why I post my workouts on the [Instagram] stories,” explained Philipps.

Philipps believes that this “modeling behavior” starts at home, since she didn’t feel athletic for the longest time because her family didn’t encourage physical activity and exercise. She’s trying to set a better example for her daughters by making exercise a part of her daily routine.

“My girls have a different experience because their dad [husband Marc Silverstein] goes to spin class always every day, they know that. I do my workout every morning, they know that,” said Philipps while chatting with People Magazine.

In a world obsessed with perfect fitness models, Chinae Alexander did something controversial. She recently published a photo of herself on her Instagram page that shows her from a non-flattering angle.

Along with the photo, she wrote, “I didn’t post this photo before because of the way my stomach looked. And now I am posting this photo….because I didn’t post this photo because of the way my stomach looked. (Get all that?) 99% of the time I am damn proud of my body. But I want you to know that even people who are confident have to deal with flashes of negativity about ourselves. Changing your body image isn’t like turning a light switch off. It’s a daily act of forgiving your own imperfection and. CHOOSING to see your worthiness. So yeah. We all suck at this. But with grace, each other, and some sanity nachos…we suck less over time.”

Alexander is a big mental health and well-being promoter who believes in being honest about your life rather than showing everything as perfect even when it’s not. She’s an amazing role model for young girls everywhere.
