One thing that can really help motivate you for a workout is a great playlist. Music can help improve our mood, make us get up on our feet, and inspire us to improve. So the music you listen to might make the difference between a great workout and an uninspiring one. Here are some tips.

Choose Music That Makes You Want to Dance

We all have that one genre of music that when it starts playing, we absolutely can’t control our bodies from moving along to the rhythm. This is the perfect type of music to listen to when you work out. Even when you start to get tired, having that intoxicating beat or melody in your ears will make it really difficult to stand still.

Match the Beat to the Intensity

You can use Google or Spotify to find collections of songs that all play to a specific BPM (beats per minute). Since you’ll likely naturally move to the beat, a faster song will make for a more intense workout and a slower song for less intense. You can customize your playlist to slowly amp up the intensity and then cool down.

Sound Effects

If you prefer to pretend you’re in a movie, you can also download playlists that make it sound like you’re running from zombies or a murderer in lieu of music. Now that’s motivating!

It’s been over three years since The Greatest Showman came out, but every song from its soundtrack still lives in our heads rent-free. Emily Thorne of EmkFit feels the same way, so she decided to make a brilliant workout video with the songs from this beloved musical.

Thorne first surprised her YouTube subscribers by sharing a brief fitness routine they can do to the beat of “Rewrite the Stars”. Performed by Zac Efron and Zendaya in the original movie, this song was transformed into an intense, yet fun full-body workout that you can perform with no equipment.

Just when we thought things couldn’t get any better, Thorne gave us another workout video with four more songs. “Rewrite the Stars” can be used as a warm-up, while the full video includes the songs  “Come Alive”, “The Other Side”, “This is Me”, and “The Greatest Show”.

Just like all other clips on EmkFit’s channel, this one is offbeat and easy to follow. It includes all the basic moves you’d find in any full-body workout, such as jumping jacks, squats, and lunges. Thorne’s positive energy is truly infectious, and she’ll make it easy to get through this workout.

Dance workouts experienced a huge rise in popularity this year, and they’re getting more unusual and specific as time goes by. Emily Thorne of EmkFit is one of the people putting this trend on the map, and she recently created a perfect workout for everyone dealing with heartbreak.

The main goal of Thorne’s workout channel is to “make working out a little less awful and a lot more fun.” She certainly accomplished this goal with her “Breakup Anthem” workout, which consists of amazing songs everyone should put on their playlist after calling it quits with their toxic ex.

After warming up to the beat of Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Getting Back Together”, Thorne went on to “7 Things” by Miley Cyrus, “Somebody I Used to Know” by Gotye, and several more breakup classics playing in the background.

If you’re trying to get in better shape or simply want to feel good after a breakup, this 25-minute workout is just the thing you need. However, you’ll also enjoy it if you’re in a happy relationship because all the songs are absolute bops anyway. No equipment is required, and all the moves are super-easy to perform even if you’re new to working out.

Most people know that listening to music can make their long workouts more fun. But did you know that scientists have proven that music is not only fun, it can greatly influence and improve your workouts? Here’s why you should make a playlist for your next gym session.

Keep Your Pace

Studies have shown that music activates the motor area of our brain, which is why we tend to synchronize our moves to the music. This can be of great help during long runs because listening to the beat of the music can help us maintain a steady pace and save our energy.

Elevate Your Mood

We already know that the best way to improve our mood is to listen to our favorite tunes, but there’s also scientific evidence that listening to music releases dopamine. That’s why an uplifting playlist can motivate you to move even when you don’t feel like exercising.

Improve Your Performance

Music is not only good for boosting mood, it can also improve your performance and endurance. Going through a tough workout or running a marathon is easier and more enjoyable if you’re listening to motivating music.

Ariana Grande returned to the spotlight with her new album Positions, starting with the lead single of the same name. A week after its release, this catchy song soared to No. 1 on numerous charts and inspired several pretty intense workouts.

One of them was shared by MadFit’s Maddie Lymburner, who is usually the first person to come up with viral workouts based on the latest pop hits. That was also the case with “Positions”, and her three-minute clip inspired us to immediately put this song on our workout playlist.

Like many of her previous full-body workouts, this one can be performed from the comfort of your home, without any equipment. It will activate several muscle groups at the same time, and it’s especially great for your legs and quads.

MadFit’s new dance cardio workout mostly consists of squats and lunges, and several variations of these exercises are repeated throughout the video. They’re combined with jumps and simple dance moves that you can use to catch a breath during this brief, but intense workout.

One Direction workouts experienced a huge surge in popularity in the last few weeks thanks to the band’s tenth anniversary. It was just a matter of time before one of the most popular fitness YouTubers MadFit shared her own—and that moment is finally here.

MadFit often shares equipment-free workouts you can perform to the beat of the latest radio hits. This time around, she fit several One Direction hits into a single 15-minute video—including “Live While We’re Young”, “C’mon, C’mon”, “One Thing”, “Best Song Ever”, and “Kiss You”.

This is a great cardio workout since it includes a lot of jumping and dancing around your room. It also features several different variations of squats and lunges, but you won’t even notice that you’re doing them because this video makes them look really fun.

Just like with the majority of MadFit’s videos, you don’t need any equipment to perform this workout, apart from the yoga mat. The entire routine looks really fun, and it will give you an amazing full-body workout in just 15 minutes.
