There is a running joke that coconut oil can cure all ailments. Frizzy hair? Coconut oil. Dry skin? Coconut oil. No shaving cream? Coconut oil. Partner acting up? Coconut oil. While there are limits to what the magic oil can achieve, it is no secret that it is both versatile and healthy. In fact, it is an excellent idea to put one to two tablespoons of coconut oil in coffee. Here’s why.

Blood Sugar

Having balanced blood sugar is beneficial for our hormones, sleep, and energy levels. While coffee can cause blood sugar to spike, coconut oil increases insulin sensitivity which can help balance it out and avoid that nasty crash.

Cognitive Function

Chances are, you’re drinking coffee because you need to kickstart your mental alertness. When fatty acids—like those found coconut oil—bind with caffeine, it allows the caffeine to be absorbed over a slower period of time, keeping you alert for longer.

Immune System Protective

With its blend of lauric acid and caprylic acid, coconut oil is antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal. Combining it with coffee, which has its own amount of antioxidants, can make your morning cuppa into a rather healthy drink.
