Sometimes, the hardest thing about taking care of ourselves is that it can feel like something we “have” to do. That makes it seem like work or a chore, which in turn makes getting motivated to do it harder. But it doesn’t need to be a chore—all you need are some little hacks to rewire your brain into enjoying exercise. Here are some tips.

Do Something You Enjoy

If going to the gym and running around the track isn’t your thing, that’s totally fine. What’s important is to be moving regularly and getting your heart rate up—you don’t need to do a hardcore traditional workout to exercise. If you like dancing, try putting on an upbeat playlist and dancing and jumping around your room for 15 minutes every day. If you like exploring, try going on a long walk around your town or in nature a few times a week. Use your hobbies as a reason to exercise!

Turn it Into a Break

Exercise is also a great way to blow off steam. Getting your heart rate up every so often during your workday can help concentration. If you’ve had a bad day at work, or you can feel yourself losing steam, try doing sets of jumping jacks at your desk or going for a power walk after work to help relieve some stress from day-to-day life.
