When is it Too Late to Eat Dinner?

There is a point in the day when breakfast is no longer served. The same goes for lunch, but dinner doesn’t seem to be bound by any time limit. You could have dinner as late as midnight if you wanted! People in European countries tend to eat later than others, but the truth is that eating past a certain hour is not the healthiest thing to be doing.

Eat Before 8

It’s recommended that you stop eating around 2-3 hours before hitting the hay. This gives your body enough time to let the food go down and digest properly; and not bother you with things like indigestion, heartburn, and discomfort. If you have a typical bedtime, it should be easy to calculate the cut-off time. If not, aim to stop eating around 8 pm.

Healthy Weight Management

Your metabolism naturally tends to slow down during the evening. Having meals that are heavy or dense in calories close to bedtime can lead to weight gain as the body doesn’t have enough time to burn them off.

Keep it Light

If you do get peckish late at night, there are a few things you can do. We sometimes feel hungry when we are dehydrated, so drink a glass of water and see if that helps. If you’re still feeling hunger pangs, opt for something light like a yogurt or a handful of nuts.
