While looking good while exercising is important, your workout clothes should be comfortable and functional. The fabric, color, and fit should be taken into consideration when you buy activewear. If you’re working out outside, keep in mind the weather as you might need to dress in layers to stay warm. Here’s what to keep in mind when getting workout gear.
Fabric/Material
Your workout clothes should absorb your sweat and be breathable enough to allow for wicking. If you don’t like clingy fabrics, cotton, and materials like sweatpants or t-shirts are better options for you. Synthetic materials pull sweat away or help evaporate it. Choose the fabric based on the activity you plan on doing—for hot yoga or intense cardio you’ll want something lightweight and for running outside during the winter you’ll need something heavier.
Fit
Clothes that are too tight will restrict your movements and ones that are too loose could cause wardrobe malfunctions. Look for clothes with stretch and elasticity. For women, finding the perfect sports bra is a real struggle, as ones that are too tight can make it difficult to breathe and ones that are too loose will cause you to bounce.
Climate
When exercising outside, you may need to wear layers, depending on the weather. During the summer you’ll want something lightweight and if you’re exercising at night, you should wear reflective clothing.
Style
Looking good will make you feel good. If you like matching ensembles or oversized clothing than you should wear it when you workout. You want to feel comfortable while you exercise, so wear things that make you feel confident.
