3 Reasons to Run on the Treadmill Instead of Outside

Do you love running, but it’s just too hot to run outside right now? Over the next month, the temperatures will increase, making it even harder to workout outside. But, you can get just as good of a workout on the treadmill without having to suffer from the heat and humidity. Here are three reasons to run on the treadmill instead of outside.

Training Post-Injury

The treadmill is a softer surface and it puts less pressure on your joints which equals fewer risks for injuries as well as less stress and inflation for recovering injuries. While running on the treadmill, you can ease yourself back into running by setting a relaxed pace and not over-pushing yourself.

Motivation to Increase Speed

When running on the open roads, it’s easy to slow down even when you’re trying to increase your distance and speed. But on the treadmill, you have to keep up with the speed of the belt. You can also slightly adjust the speed to push yourself harder, which makes the run more exciting.

Day one of novice half marathon training! ✅ You may be thinking, “What?! Aren’t you a 20 time marathoner?!” Yes, I am, but if I’m being real honest it’s been a hot minute since I’ve followed a training plan. 🙊 Yup. ⁣ ⁣ It’s time to get my rear in gear and stop playing around. Seriously. ⁣ ⁣ I love going to races and it’s been difficult to go over two months with no races (in person that is). The last time I went this long without a race was when I gave birth to Seraphina in 2018. ⁣ ⁣ I’m following the Hal Higdon half marathon training plan for several reasons: 1) Because I feel like a novice runner right now. 2) Now YOU can join me. 💥⁣ ⁣ There’s nothing like having an accountability partner. You all are serving as my accountability partners. Now that I’m putting it out there that I’m starting this training plan, I MUST stick to it and if I don’t, call me out on it! ⁣ ⁣ My sights are set on the @santarosamarathon Half Marathon on August 30th. I’d love for you to join me! Use code SAVE10 for 10% off of your registration. 🧡⁣ ⁣ Prior to the Santa Rosa Half, I have the FREE @bobgearus Gear Up Virtual 5k June 4th – 7th (link in bio to join… ALL are welcome!). I’m also running the @ipa10k in Sebastopol on August 8th. Use code BRBEERRUN20 for 10% off. 🧡⁣ ⁣ So, LOTS to look forward to and time to get running! Who’s in? Who’s ready to join me as my accountability partners?

Inclines

If you’re training for a race with steep incline climbs, you need to run in a place that mimics this. Not everyone is around hilly areas, and on the treadmill, you can play around with the inclines to build your endurance and improve your form.
