Training with a workout buddy is one of the best ways to stay motivated for your sweat sessions, but it doesn’t work for everyone. Here are a couple of major signs that working out with a friend isn’t doing you any favors.
Slacking Off
When it comes to hitting the gym with a workout buddy, you should look for someone who’s extremely dependable. Training with someone who’s constantly skipping workouts, slacking off, and spending more time chatting than working out will leave you frustrated and unfocused.
Different Fitness Level
Working out with someone on a higher fitness level is a double-edged sword. It could push you harder, but you may find yourself struggling to keep up. You can solve this problem by doing more or less advanced exercises than your partner, but there’s a possibility you won’t find the balance and make it work.
Not Supportive
Even if you’re really good friends with someone, there’s no guarantee you’ll hit it off at the gym. If you discover they’re too competitive or critical, and that their comments are doing you more harm than good, it might be time to look for a new workout buddy.
