Finding a workout buddy is one of the most common ways to increase your motivation, but it will do you more harm than good if you pick the wrong person. No matter how friendly you are with someone, some types of people simply don’t make for a great workout buddy, and that’s the case with these three.

Flaky Friend

Having a workout buddy should help you stay consistent with your workouts, but that will be impossible if your friends are constantly flaking on you. A workout buddy who’s constantly late or standing you up at the very last minute will make it difficult to fully commit to your workouts.

Different Fitness Levels

Fitness level should play a crucial role in choosing your workout buddy. If you’re considering working out with someone who’s on a much lower or a higher fitness level than you, it’s better to wait until you’re on the same page because you’ll just be dragging each other down instead of lifting each other up.

Overly Confident

Too much of a good thing isn’t always so great when it comes to your workout buddy. It’s fun to work out with someone who has a lot of knowledge about fitness, but if they’re taking things to the extreme and constantly insisting to do things their way, you’ll struggle to find time for exercises that you enjoy.
