A rowing machine is one of the most versatile gym machines, and you should definitely include it in your routine. If you’re still not sure how to use it, here’s what you should know about the four main phases of working out on a rowing machine.

The Grip

The grip is your starting position of catching the handle before you start to row. It’s important to do it with the correct form, keeping your back straight, core tight, and make sure your shoulders are positioned in front of your hips.

The Drive

This move is all about driving the legs up and extending your knees to push your heels into the foot pedals. Make sure to use your hips when you’re doing this move and allow your hands to cross over your knees. This is the most complex phase of using a rowing machine, so try to stay relaxed throughout.

The Finish

The finish refers to the final positioning of the body following each stroke. Allow your torso to lean back slightly, and your legs to extend, and hold this position for a brief moment.

The Recovery

The recovery phase is pretty self-explanatory, and it’s all about allowing yourself a brief moment of relaxation before your next stroke.
