5 Lifestyle Changes That Can Prevent Migraines

Migraines are the worst. If you’ve ever had one you know just how uncomfortable and painful they can be. In fact, they can be so unbearable that they can prevent you from living your life. With these five lifestyle changes, the frequency of migraines can be prevented or eliminated completely.

Fresh Foods

Stay clear of processed foods, as they are high in ingredients that cause migraines. Stick to diets high in fresh fruit and vegetables, particularly the Mediterranean diet. Hot dogs, sausages, aged cheeses, artificial sweeteners, chocolate, and bacon should be avoided.

Stay Hydrated

The recommended amount of water you should be drinking daily is 64 ounces of water. Dehydration is a common cause of migraines and when it’s a hot day or if you exercise, 64 ounces of water may not be enough to keep you hydrated.

While most of us love our cup of coffee in the morning (and two more throughout the day), caffeine also triggers migraines. If you drink a lot of coffee, your body builds up a tolerance and you may be going through caffeine withdrawal symptoms. To avoid migraines limit your intake of caffeine or avoid it all together.

Don’t Skip Meals

Between work, exercising, picking up the kids, and preparing dinner, it’s easy to forget to take a break for a meal. Skipping meals or intermittent fasting can cause migraines. It’s best to have five or six small meals throughout the day to keep your blood sugar stable.

Eat Foods With Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Not only are Omega-3 fatty acids good for your heart and weight loss, they also help with migraines. They can help fight inflammation and they are found in tons of foods including salmon, walnuts, flaxseed, and olive oil.

Keep a Healthy Weight

Staying at a healthy weight is good for your health and it can affect how often you experience migraines. If you’re overweight, you’re at risk of having 15 or more headache days each month. By maintaining a healthier weight, you’re also decreasing the frequency of migraines.

TOP 5 FITNESS APPS ✨👊🏼 Ok – plug your phone in to charge because we have finally sat down and put down on paper the 5 apps we swear by! We use them daily to support our health and fitness goals and we are sharing them with you because we want you to have your hot little hands on these handy free apps too! ⠀ Trust us, out of curiosity and a down right desire to have the best tools and resources at our disposal, we have tried pretty much EVERY app created for the health and fitness junkie. Some have been a waste of space, some have had so many glitches we could have thrown our phones at the wall – but some have been super helpful and we are excited to share them with you! ⠀ Best of all – there are free versions of each of them. ⠀ Drum Roll Please. ⠀ May we present the apps that actually deserve the space they take up on our phones! ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ NUMBER ONE: Boxing Timer App ⠀ This is without a doubt our favourite and we recommend it to EVERYONE. ⠀ There are many versions of this, that all do the same thing. The Boxing Timer App is designed to control time during interval training. ⠀ You can use it to time intervals in any way. When doing pad rounds, hitting the bag by yourself, any movement you are doing repetitively will benefit from you using the timer app to keep you accountable. ⠀ It times your work time, makes a sound to let you know you have 10 seconds to go in the round and then times your rest time. ⠀ You decide how long the work/rest times are and it keeps track of how many rounds you want to do too! ⠀ This lets you just throw yourself into the workout without having to watch the time, or count your rounds (we have all been out of breath wondering ‘Do I have 2 or 3 sets left?!’) ⠀ Its particularly useful when boxing because once you have set it up – you dont have to touch it again, which can be problematic when you have boxing gloves on!
