Sometimes, burning calories and staying in shape can seem really difficult, especially when we focus too hard on counting or staying in shape through commercial means. But what we may forget to take into account is that our bodies burn calories just but keeping us alive and that activities we do just for fun or day-to-day can be burning those calories in the background. So here are three activities that you can count toward your weekly fitness—without ever hitting the gym.

Going to a Concert

Most of the time at high-energy rock, pop, or metal concerts, you won’t just be sitting still and listening—you’ll be standing up and jumping around! Jumping in itself is a great leg-strengthener and calorie burner—plus you’ll be working your abs singing along at the top of your lungs and your upper body waving your arms in the air for longer than you’d normally even work out!

Shopping

Most people know that a brisk power walk can make a great workout and that being on your feet for a long time is exhausting. A comprehensive trip to the grocery store might have you on your feet for an hour or more, pushing a heavy grocery cart in front of you. That’s a bigger physical feat that we give it credit for!

Playing With a Pet

If you have a dog, you probably have to go on at least a few walks a day. That’s already a great way to bring movement into your day, and depending on their energy, you may even be getting some cardio in. Additionally, any pet that likes to be played with is going to have you moving around!
