Not all calories are created equally. While carbs are greats for giving us quick energy, protein, fat, and fiber are key to sustaining the energy. Foods high in protein and fiber will keep you feeling full longer.
You’re Distracted When Eating
Due to our busy lifestyles, many of us eat while we’re walking, driving, or on the phone. But, if you eat too quickly, your body doesn’t recognize that you’re full. Mindful eating can help you feel satisfied and it can reduce your cravings and emotional eating.
Your Hormones Aren’t Functioning Properly
When your body is in a constant state of stress, your cortisol levels rise which can cause you to feel hungry. Stress eating usually results in eating foods high in carbs and sugar, which won’t keep you feeling full. Also, when you’re menstruating, your hormones shift which can cause an increase in appetite and cravings. To deal with stress, try to exercise, journal, read, or meditate.
It’s easy to confuse hunger and thirst, so make sure you’re hydrated before you reach for snacks. If you’re feeling hungry soon after eating, try drinking a couple of cups of water.
