Ice skating is one of the most popular winter sports, but it doesn’t necessarily come with a low-price tag. Between paying for the entrance and renting ice skates, you’ll spend a lot of money if you enjoy hitting the ice rink on a regular basis, but does it make sense to buy your own ice skates?

Not For Beginners

If you’re still a beginner when it comes to ice skating, there’s no need to buy ice skates. Simply rent a pair and figure out if you enjoy this activity in the first place before making any big investment. If you decide you don’t like it, your ice skates will just gather dust.

Regular Skating

Even if you’re not a beginner and enjoy ice skating a few times each winter, you should still think twice before buying ice skates. They tend to be pretty pricy, and if you’re not ice skating on a regular basis, you’ll probably spend less money renting them than buying a new pair.

Better Than Rental

One of the main benefits of buying a new pair of ice skates is that they’re better than rental skates. They haven’t been worn by countless different people, so they won’t be worn out or have dull blades. If you’re not happy with the quality of rental skates and feel like they’re impacting your performance, buying a new pair might be a good idea.
