Fitness Trend Alert: Orangetheory

Chances are you’ve heard about Orangetheory by passing by a studio, from a friend who has become really into it, or even seen it featured on an episode of Queer Eye. You probably don’t know exactly what the fitness craze is or why people are so obsessed with it.

What’s Orangetheory?

Orangetheory is a one-hour group fitness class that uses a different workout each day, which incorporates cardio and strength training exercises. What makes it different from other fitness classes is that you are given a heart rate monitor to wear throughout your workout. During your workout, your data is shown on screens around the room and you can see how many calories you’ve burned and your current heart rate.

What Kind Of Workout Is It?

You will use a variety of equipment throughout your workout, including treadmills, rowing machines, dumbbells, a TRX, resistance bands, and others. The cardio part of the session is for 30-minutes and the floor/strength training exercises are for the other 30-minutes.

Can Beginners Try It?

Orangetheory is designed for all fitness levels. The exercises can be catered to individual needs; if you aren’t comfortable using a treadmill you can get your cardio fix with a bike or strider.
