If you tend to run for a certain period of time, and abruptly stop after reaching that goal, your workout lacks one essential factor. Cooling down for at least ten minutes after your run is extremely important, and here’s why you should do it every time.

Going Back to Normal

Cooling down is an essential part of each running session because it gives your body enough time to go back to a state of rest. By slowing down your pace or performing some light stretching exercises, you’re providing your body with an opportunity to go back to normal.

Ten minutes are usually all it takes to normalize your heart rate and blood pressure, regulate your breathing, relax your muscles, and bring your body temperature back to normal.

Recovery Process

The cool-down also plays an important role in the recovery process. By taking a couple of extra minutes to stretch your muscles, you’re making sure they won’t be sore afterward. This speeds up your body’s recovery process and helps you prevent injuries in the long run.
