Yoga has many great benefits, but like any other exercise, it can cause serious injuries. Here are some tips you should follow to prevent yourself from getting hurt.
Find a Qualified Teacher
There are many yoga guides on the Internet, however, not every YouTuber who posts a video about yoga is a true yoga guru. Make sure your teacher you take classes with is qualified enough and has obtained at least the basic program which is a 200 to 500 hours yoga teacher training program.
Have Realistic Expectations
Don’t expect to be able to do advance poses after just a few yoga classes. Your flexibility will improve over time.
Don’t Force Yourself
Forcing yourself to do a difficult pose may cause injury. Instead, listen to your body and take the long view.
Choose Alignment-Oriented
Practices
Picking a yoga that emphasizes alignment is one of the best ways to avoid injury, especially if you’re already nursing an old one.
See a Doctor
In case of any kind of injury, you should immediately see a doctor, and return to your practice when you are healed. Talk to your teacher and tell them about a recent injury so they can adjust the poses to your condition.
