There are all kinds of ways to hold yourself accountable when it comes to staying active and fit. One of them is to keep a journal and we’re not talking about a digital journal that you “keep” on your smartphone. We’re talking about a physical journal that requires you to write in it with a pen and pencil. Here’s why we think it’s a great idea if you’re trying to stay in shape.

Make Plans

In the beginning of the week, write down exactly what you want to accomplish throughout the week. Specify which day you’re going to accomplish which things, how long you want it to take, and approximately what time you’d want to do them. Every time you get something done, check it off your list. If you operate like this, you’ll find yourself getting things done more efficiently and effectively.

More Personal Accountability

Writing in your journal with your own handwriting takes this level of accountability to a whole new level. Forget about doing it on your phone—there’s something truly personal about writing it with a pen that makes you almost emotionally invested in “coming through for yourself”. Whoever said the old ways of doing things were over?
