Rainy weather is one of the most convenient excuses to skip your training, but you should learn how to make it work in your favor. Just because the sun is nowhere to be found, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t rise and shine – and put on your gym clothes.

If getting wet is your main excuse to avoid training in the rain, just get a waterproof jacket. Never go with cotton and opt for synthetic fabrics that don’t absorb as much water. Good shoes and gloves are also a must because you might slip and hurt yourself otherwise.

No one expects you to exercise in the pouring rain when everyone else is safely tucked away in the comfort of their home. Check the forecast before going out and make sure the weather will be workout-appropriate. Pack extra clothes just in case, and always pick exercises that are not exposing you to injuries or slow down the pace of the ones you’re usually doing.

If you feel the rain is hurting your progress, you can always go with dry alternatives. Park pavilions, gyms and activity centers will provide you with the cover you need, but working out at home is also an option.
