Aloe vera juice is celebrated for its good effects on health, but what exactly does it do? It’s believed to have numerous health benefits and yet there is no proof that consuming aloe vera juice can do anything real for you. Since the taste is also not the best, we wanted to dig into the matter a bit more and answer the question: is drinking aloe vera worth it at all?

Herbal Benefits

“Aloe vera juice is extracted from the green outer leaf of the aloe vera plant,” dietician Rachel Berman tells Real Simple. “It’s made by crushing the plant and filtering out the liquid. Naturally, it tastes bitter and is slightly thicker than plain water.”

This shouldn’t be confused with aloe vera gel, which is found in the plant’s thick leaves. The gel has been used for treating skin burns and other problems for centuries.

It’s Healthy For You

As Berman notes, the nutritious effects of aloe vera juice come from that of the aloe vera plant. We’re not going to sit here and say it’s an essential thing that everyone must consume, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. If you’re on a health kick and you love herbal remedies, feel free to get your aloe on!
