It’s pretty obvious that you should be washing your face after you work out because you’ve gotten sweaty and will need to shower anyway. What many people don’t realize, however, is that you should actually wash your face before you work out, especially if you are wearing makeup from the day.

When you work out, your pores open to release heat in the form of sweat. This means that the openings on your face that are already susceptible to getting clogged from makeup throughout a regular day are even more accepting of dirt and bacteria. For clear skin, you need to prevent this from happening whenever possible.

Washing your face before you work out so that it’s clear of all makeup and dirt from the day is imperative to prevent your pores from getting clogged while you work out. In turn, this will help prevent acne from developing during your workout.

If you work out in the morning, you don’t need to worry about washing the day’s makeup and dirt off your face, so this is optional. If you’re a mid-day or night workout person, however, you should really consider it. It might feel ridiculous at first to wash up before you sweat, but trust us, your skin will be so much happier.
