Figuring when you should or shouldn’t wear a certain piece of workout clothing sparks confusion from time to time. This is true in regards to having the right sneakers, wearing a sweatshirt while running, and even something you may not have initially considered: a hat. At the outset, it may seem like wearing a hat would be a little bit uncomfortable when working out. However, there are some situations when it’s actually appropriate.

On a Sunny Day

If the day is hot and you’re about to engage in an outdoor workout, wearing a hat might be the right thing to do. In addition to a pair of sunglasses, your hat’s visor will help protect you from the shining rays of the sun, and ultimately improve your performance. More importantly, it’ll reduce your chances of getting heatstroke.

Long Hair

If you’ve got super long hair and you can’t stand the idea of putting it into a bun, then a hat can be a good way to keep your hairdo in check. Sure, when you’re casually strolling along the beach, you love showing the world your luscious locks. But in the gym, your hair can get sweaty, gross, and frankly all over the place—a hat can ensure that it’s not an issue.
