Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced runner, you probably already know there are certain things you should do before a run if you want to enjoy it and improve your athletic performance. But knowing what not to do is equality important. Here are three things you should definitely avoid before a run.

Eating Too Much

Avoid eating two to three hours before a long run because enjoying a meal right before you go running might cause nausea or cramps. Also, avoid junk food and fried or spicy food if you have an important race coming up.

Skipping Warmups or Doing Static Stretching

Skipping warmups before running is a common and very bad habit that you simply shouldn’t make because it’s important for preventing injuries and boosting performance. Also, it’s best to do some dynamic exercises such as arm swings, leg swings, and light jogging in order to warm up the entire body.

Over or Underhydrating

Ideally you want to drink small amounts of water throughout the day in order to hydrate your body and prepare for the run. Avoid drinking too much water, stop drinking an hour before the run and, of course, don’t forget to go to the bathroom before you leave home.
