Turn Your Walk Into an Effective Workout in Three Short Steps

Walking is one of the most relaxing ways to burn some extra calories, and we should all strive to do it more. This activity comes with a long list of health benefits, and here’s a couple of tips you can use to transform it into an incredibly effective workout.

Walk Faster

Stepping up your pace is one of the easiest ways to make your walking workout more effective. Speed walking is a popular alternative to running and jogging because it doesn’t put as much stress on the joints.

Add Elevation

Changing your incline is another popular way to amp up the intensity of your walk. Walking on an incline will challenge your body and make it burn calories faster, but it can also help you tone up your muscles because it will help you work legs, glutes, and calves at the same time.

IT'S TIME TO GET CREATIVE WITH YOUR DAY 💛⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well guys, here I am running laps in my enclosed backyard.. at least I'm getting some air and sunshine??⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Joking! I live in Sydney guys – no backyard here 😂⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But in all seriousness, it's time to get creative with your exercise, your NEAT and your day!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You know how we talked about how to have the worst Christmas ever this year (if not, have a look back to Christmas time or check out my blog post on my website (link in Instagram bio!) and have a read, because it is all still so relevant.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There's no reason to break the amazing habits you have been cultivating because of lockdown. It's time to adjust and get creative.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Of course, you have plenty of my premium workouts and Youtube workouts to choose from 💪⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But we need some sun too! If you have a backyard, bring your laptop out there and do one of my workouts outside! Do some laps around your backyard. If you just have a balcony or porch, bring some cans or water bottles outside and do some arm workouts, or squats and lunges.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Make sure if you are working from home you are taking regular breaks, stand up, hydrate, walk around, change rooms. Ensuring that you are still moving around will make sure that you are increasing your NEAT and keeping your body from getting to stiff and making sure you are still burning cals and gaining strength.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is a scary bit in time, but it's just a blip. Don't let it derail you – rather, look at it as a problem or a puzzle that you need to solve and find new ways to adapt and change your routine to suit the ever-changing environment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are you doing to adapt and change? What can you recommend to others in the community?

Extra Equipment

Many people carry dumbbells and wear ankle weights during their walks, but this is strategy has its ups and downs. If you decide to give it a go, make sure to keep it light and avoid intense movements, because weights can have a negative impact on your posture.
