Watch Figure Skater Starr Andrews Dances to “Black Like Me”

    Youtube channel On Ice Perspectives recently shared a video of figure skater Starr Andrews gliding on the ice to “Black Like Me” by Mickey Guyton. The video shows the dancer thanking Guyton for the song which as inspired her so much that she “had to skate to it”.

    Her program was choreographed by Derrick Delmore and Andrews says that it “honors the struggles that African Americans have, and still are enduring.” Guyton’s song came out a few months ago and it represents the country music’s response to the unfortunate events we’ve witnessed this year. 

    Andrew’s ice skating routine uses moves to enhance some moments in the song. She jumps and spins as Guyton sings, “It’s a hard life on easy street” and “You should try to be Black like me,” and it’s really touching. She smiles the whole time and raises her fist in the end. Guyton shared her appreciation with Andrews on Twitter, writing “This is so special! You are amazing, thank you so much for this.”
