What Kind of Music is Optimal Workout Music?

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your workouts is implement a good playlist to listen to. The second that music starts bumping, you’ll fly through multiple reps without even missing a beat (no pun intended). But what music is the optimal music for workouts? The answer is more complex than you might think.

Something Energetic?

The first thing you might consider is that you want to listen to upbeat music while working out. If you enjoy electronic music, then perhaps some dubstep. Or if you’re a rap music fan, maybe some ’90s Tupac to get your juices flowing. Or perhaps you’re a metal head and need some Metallica to get through a set. Which genre you prefer, high-energy music is hard to argue with. It gets your blood pumping and allows your adrenaline to course through your body. But there’s more to this picture than meets the eye.

Know Yourself

While high-energy music can be valuable in this scenario, it’s possible that it’s the last thing YOU, in particular, need. Maybe you’re someone that’ll respond better during a workout to soft-indie, or smooth jazz. Or heck, even a podcast for that matter! The best thing you can do for yourself is test a bunch of things out until you find something that works well for you. There are no judgments because whatever gets you to perform best is the obvious choice you should go with.
