Many of us spend all year trying to get into our best shape for summer and once it finally comes, so do the temptations and delicious foods. Whether it’s barbecues, graduation parties, holidays, or weddings, sticking to a healthy lifestyle during the summer is really difficult. Here are three common mistakes to watch out for that are ruining your healthy lifestyle and how to avoid them.

Going Overboard at Barbecues

Between the processed meats, toppings, condiments, sides, and desserts, it’s easy to fill your plate with foods that don’t fit into your diet. A healthier option for burgers is lean ground beef, salmon, or turkey. In regards to toppings, choose avocado instead of mayonnaise or ketchup. Fill up your plate with veggies, vinaigrette-based pasta or bean salads, and hummus.

Drinking Frozen Fruity Beverages and Smoothies

Fruity frozen alcoholic beverages and smoothies have tons of sugar and are loaded with calories. If you’re looking for an alcoholic drink, sip on vodka with soda water and lime or a margarita with lime juice and orange juice. For smoothies, make them at home so you can control how much sugar is added to them.

Working Out to Burn Calories

Some people work out extra hard prior to big events like barbecues so they can eat more or after them to burn what they’ve eaten. Instead of thinking of exercising as a way to be able to eat something, focus on the benefits of it and how it makes you feel.
