Wicked is one of the most popular movies of 2024, and it helped many people rediscover the magic of the original musical it’s based on. Emily Thorne of EmkFit has been a fan of this Broadway classic for years, and now’s a better time than ever to burn some major calories to her Wicked dance workout.
Thorne is a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, who had a very clear vision for her YouTube channel when she first started it in 2020. She was on a mission to make working out “a little less awful and a lot more fun” and she often relied on the power of music to make her workouts entertaining.
Thorne is a huge fan of musicals, and we’ve seen her choreograph amazing dance workouts inspired by many Broadway classics, including Wicked. It takes 25 minutes to finish this dance routine, which includes elements of HIIT, but you’ll barely feel any time pass at all because Thorne made sure to infuse it with a lot of fun.
The workout opens with Ariana Grande’s version of “The Wizard and I”, which is quite symbolic since she went on to play Glinda in the film adaptation. The rest of the songs are taken from the original Broadway musical starring Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, including “Popular”, “Dancing Through Life”, “One Short Day”, and “Defying Gravity”.
