Going the Extra Mile (Literally) Can Make You Healthier

According to The United States Centers for Disease Control, adults should get at least 150 minutes of combined physical activity every week in order to maintain optimal health. The good news is that you don’t really need the gym or even a treadmill. You can get active in many fun ways, and the easiest way to do it is to increase the time you spend walking.

For an average walker, 150 minutes of walking per week equals walking two miles every day for five days, and this is definitely doable.

If you decide to start walking more, make sure you have the right equipment. And when we say equipment, we mean a good pair of walking or running shoes and that’s it. Wear any clothes you feel comfortable in and just get out when it’s convenient for you. Of course, you can use the walking time to run errands or walk to and from work if that fits in your schedule. As long as you get your 2 miles per day, it doesn’t really matter how and when you do it.
