Brie Larson really had to step out of her comfort zone to get ready for her career-defining performance in Captain Marvel. It was her first project that demanded extensive physical preparation, and Oscar-winning actress really had to step up her game.

Larson was not much of a gym rat before landing this role, but that didn’t stop her from winning the part. She immediately hired celebrity trainer Jason Walsh, who helped her get into a superhero shape over the course of the next few months.

“Brie came to me, and the good thing was we had 9 months. Her character is very very physical, so we needed her to be super resilient, super strong, so that she can recover from this and not risk shutting down production,” explained Walsh.

According to him, Larson would hit the gym five times a week to get in shape, and they mostly focused on strength training. That’s why the Captain Marvel workout regimen employed several basic pieces of strength training equipment, such as resistance bands, stability balls, and barbells.
