Even the greatest athletes of all time have gone through their share of awkward phases in the gym. After all, the saying “no pain, no gain” exists for a reason. The only way to truly grow as an athlete is to overcome struggles, which is why you’ll need to get through it too if you want to grow as well. So how do you do it?

One Step at a Time

When you’re trying to get through 10 push-ups but just can’t seem to do it, it may seem as though you’re looking at a mountain of work in order to achieve your goals. But the worst thing you can do for yourself is to try to do everything at once. If you compare yourself to the greatest of the great right at the start, you’re doomed. You need to be realistic and take baby steps. If you do this, you’ll appreciate your small victories, and you’ll also love yourself more in the process.

Cultivate a Positive Mindset

A positive mindset will contribute to your productivity, encouraging hard work and welcoming failure. Yup, that’s right. Failure is a common thing that everyone goes through. The key is how you react to it. As NBA star Dwyane Wade once said, “Fall down seven times, get up eight.” Think positively about your progress and before you know it, you will be in the gym, easily crushing your workouts. Just keep going.
