Working out on a daily basis may sound like a great idea at first, but the truth is that giving your body time to rest is equality beneficial as exercise. Rest days can literally improve your fitness performance, so here are a few tips that will help you get the most out of your active rest days.

The first thing you need to think about during rest days is your diet and hydration. Just because you’re taking a break from exercise doesn’t mean you can have cheat meals, so make sure to eat healthy and drink plenty of water.

Also, taking a rest day is not about spending hours in bed or in front of the TV. Our muscles need some time to rest and recover, but you can still reap the benefits of low-impact workouts. That’s why walking, cycling, yoga or pilates are all great choices for active rest days.

Don’ts

It may be appealing to play games or watch movies for hours in your free time, but try not to get too comfortable. Staying active can be more beneficial for your body, because your muscles will recover faster.
