Tips For Getting Back to the Gym

Around the world, gyms are just starting to open back up, and returning after months of them being closed due to the coronavirus restrictions is going to be difficult. Getting back into your routine is difficult, but you have to start from some point. You may feel like your performance has decreased, which is totally normal, but you have to start at some point. Here are some tips for getting back into your gym workouts.

Be Easy on Yourself

If you found that you were less active during the past few months, acknowledge that and move on. Focus on what you can control and that you’re back at the gym. Now that’s something to be proud of!

Don’t Expect to Pick Up Where You Left Off

Be aware that your first workout after time away from the gym will be difficult and you will feel sore after it. Take it easy and don’t overdo it in the beginning; your body will need time to recover. Ease back into things by cutting down on your workout time and intensity and when your body starts adjusting, you can increase your time and intensity.

Help Your Body Recover

For many of us, feeling sore after a workout makes us feel like we’ve had a good one. Since you haven’t trained in a while, you’ll probably feel sore the next day, but don’t worry, it’s only temporary. Be sure to warm up before working out and cool down at the end of your exercises. Stretching and foam rolling can help your muscles recover.

Try Something New

Now’s the perfect time to try a new class or workout. Finding one that you really enjoy will make it easier to workout.

Be Accountable to Someone

Boost your motivation to workout by having a friend or family member to exercise with or a personal trainer to hold you accountable.
