Things People Tend to Ignore About Protein Bars

Protein bars are an easy last resort we all use whenever we need a quick nutritional boost but are they really that healthy? They’re not necessarily bad, but picking up just any bar from the shelf just because the wrapper says “high in protein” isn’t the best idea.

It’s important to remember many protein bars contain more saturated fat and sugar than the unhealthiest snacks on the market. In addition to coming with a sky-high amount of sugar, they also may contain other unwelcomed ingredients. High-fructose corn syrup, food coloring, and artificial sugars come to mind. If you want those things out of your system, it’s crucial to check the label before making a purchase.

This doesn’t mean you should avoid protein bars like the plague. It’s only important to use them in moderation and put some effort into picking the right one. Always check the ingredients list and make sure they don’t contain anything you’d rather avoid.

Keep an eye on protein, fat, carbs, sugar and fiber, but remember the ideal amount of each depends on your body goals. If you’re in the mood to get creative in the kitchen, you can always make protein bars on your own. Never forget they can’t be alternative to other foods – just another healthy snack.
