Stomach problems such as nausea, cramping, and bloating are pretty common among runners, which can be pretty nerve-racking if you’re set out on running an important race. Here are a few tips on how to avoid runner’s stomach.

Don’t Eat Before The Race

Eating a large meal before the race is not a good idea, because you want to give your body time to digest food before the run. It would be ideal to eat a balanced meal three hours before the start in order to avoid runner’s stomach.

Avoid Heavy Foods

High-fat and spicy foods, as well as alcohol and sugar can irritate your stomach, so it’s best to avoid consuming these things the day before the race.

Don’t Change Your Routine

Race day is definitely not the time to experiment with food and drinks. Don’t introduce new food and drinks on the day of the race, and stick to meals that your stomach is used to.

Stay Hydrated

Don’t forget that dehydration can lead to diarrhea and nausea as well, so make sure to drink enough water before and during the race.
