When it comes to all matters of exercise, from playing competitive sports to working out at the gym, it’s important to highlight the following thing: stretching is pretty important. This may seem like something obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many people overlook this basic cornerstone. Here’s how to make sure that you’re stretching enough.

Don’t Go Halfway

Some people believe that stretching is important, but they don’t give it their all. Sure, they may stretch for about a quick minute or so before doing something vigorous, but this is not even close to how long they should be stretching for.

In order to do stretching right, you need to go all out. You need to go through every body part and work the angles for at least 10 seconds each. If you don’t, you can get seriously injured before you know it.

Stretch Afterward as Well

It’s not only crucial to stretch before physical activities—but it’s also just as important to stretch afterward. Once you’re done working out, your muscles can tighten up in these moments if you don’t stretch enough, which can also be harmful. So make sure you stretch both before and after!
