How to Safely Work Out While Wearing a Face Mask

Wearing a face mask is not pleasant, but it’s necessary for staying safe during the pandemic. It gets even more uncomfortable if you want to work out while wearing one, so here are our best tips to stay safe and healthy while working out with a mask.

Consult Your Doctor

Check with your doctor to see if you have any conditions that make working out with a face mask a health risk. This is especially important for cardiovascular and respiratory conditions. Your doctor will let you know about the best way to wear a mask when working out.

Lightweight Mask

Wearing a surgical mask or N95 mask while working out is not the best idea. Instead, use lightweight cotton masks that fit your face nicely. Wash them after every use and always wear a clean mask for working out.

Slow Down

You may need to make your workouts a bit easier than you’re used to. You know that proper breathing is an important part of every workout, and wearing a mask affects that a lot. If you get dizzy, lightheaded, or feel uncomfortable in any other way, take a break and drink some water. It may take you some time to adjust to working out with a mask on your face.
