You Shouldn’t “Make Up” for Missed Workouts

No matter how devoted you are, it’s only natural that you’re going to miss a workout or two every now and then. Should you do your best to make up for them? There’s no definite answer, as it depends on several factors—but doubling your workouts the next day typically isn’t the solution.

The first thing you need to consider is the intensity of your training. “The more intense you train, the more you’ll physically feel the results of missing your workouts,” personal trainer Dannah Eve Bollig told Popsugar.

Two workouts per day are rarely necessary unless you’re a high-level athlete who trains for a competition or something similar. Working out twice per day can be a great thing, but it has to be done in the right way. If you’re not in the best form for it, it’s not recommended.

If your body is not used to high-intensity workouts, making up for missed workouts can even set you back. It’s often best to just continue with your normal routine and forget about the workout you skipped. Consistency over perfection is often the winning formula.

More than anything, make sure to maintain a positive attitude no matter what. You missed a workout? No big deal. Just get back on track tomorrow and enjoy the process!
